5 out of 5 stars Love it!   January 24, 2002

I love my new OrangeX juicer. It is so easy that we have been juicing away ever since it arrived. My 5 year old daughter has really enjoyed helping me. It is currently residing on the counter since it is quite heavy to move around. We haven't had any problem with the handle staying up as long as you put it all the way up. I did have some enamel "dust" being created from where the joints were rubbing. A few well placed squirts of lubricant seems to have solved it. All in all we really like using it. I previously had one of the cheap manaul juicers (similar to the metrokane) and really had to bear down to get the juice out. The OrangeX is so easy and doesn't require much pressure at all. The lever action really does the work for you. It is in a different league all together. The juice has plenty of pulp for my taste and of course it tastes great with no bitterness.

5 out of 5 stars Fresh OJ in Boston? Orange-X makes it possible.   March 22, 2001

I have only good things to say about my Orange-X. This review technically refers to the white version, not the silver, but since only the color is different, it shouldn't matter. I am currently a college student in Boston, who hadn't had a decent glass of orange juice in three years (other than summer and spring breaks) since I left my home in Florida. This all changed once my Orange-X arrived. It may be difficult to find fresh squeezed juice in grocery stores, but it certainly isn't hard to find oranges (better yet, take them from the dining hall for free). The Orange-X is simple to use--cut the fruit in half, place it on juicer, pull the handle, and you have juice. I also find it the easiest to clean of any of the juicers I've ever used. The funnel and strainer are stainless steel and lift right out. I suppose they are machine washable, but a quick rinse under the sink with a sponge does the trick. I haven't owned the Orange-X as long as the first reviewer has, but I find it hard to believe that it can develop a crack in the base. The juicer is incredibly solid (all cast iron except the funnel and strainer), and I don't see how it is possible unless it was dropped out of an 18th floor apartment window. Perhaps a moving train might dent it, but I'd be more worried about the train being derailed. Basically, the Orange-X has exceeded my expectations, and I enjoy beginning my day with fresh squeezed OJ, and having my homemade lemonade in the afternoons. Even during a Noreaster, I can imagine myself back home, while sipping delicious juice in the comfort of my well-heated room.

5 out of 5 stars Mid sized is great for oranges and small grapefruit!   May 6, 2006

I have the midsized version, and it's easy to use and clean.
I juice oranges and small grapefruit. It is really not sized for lemons or limes, and I have a smaller hand juicer for those, and that hand juice works great.

It requires surprisingly little force to juice an orange or grapefruit half thoroughly. Even after one press, and rotating the remaining peel 90 degrees, very little juice can be subsequently extracted, so a "second pass" is not needed.

If you have juicing problems with your shoulder, elbow, hand etc, this juicer is for you.

My only "complaint" is that while a 2 cup measuring cup fits well under the 4.4" high "business end" of the machine, I wish I had an extra 2 inches, to fit a taller glass. This is not a problem for juicing for 2-4 people, as you just switch in and out cups. I do not see the need to spend the $ to get the larger version.

I've used other hand juicers with "off center" handles, and they are a pain, as they lean to the side of the handle, and 'hop" or tilt over..not worth the money for them.

It looks quite nice on the counter, and is a natural for my citrus filled Florida kitchen.

5 out of 5 stars love it   November 20, 2000

We bought the blue model, what they call the medium size but it's really heavy duty. We love it. When we squeeze grapefruits, you have to put your left hand on the back of the unit since the pressure to compress the grapefruit will actually tilt the unit forward toward you but with oranges, it's perfect.

5 out of 5 stars They fixed it!   August 4, 2000

Originally I purchased this unit in October, 1999. The first one they sent was cracked, and after exchanging emails with the manufacturer, they sent me a replacement unit.

I've used this unit continuously since them with absolutely no problems whatsoever. It has performed flawlessly, giving me many gallons of fresh orange and lemon juice. I use the product at least 3 times a week, and am very satisfied with is. It shows no signs at all of wear.
